Lennoxlove House...
Dating back to the 1300s, Lennoxlove House reflects the myriad of family, political and social trends which have shaped Scottish history.
Throughout the centuries, Lennoxlove has been owned by the Maitland Family, the Stewarts and, more recently, the current owners, The Duke & Duchess of Hamilton, who in 2006 began an extenvsive renovation project to bring back the life and polish to Lennoxlove House.
As a result of the 18 month restoration, Lennoxlove House has been restored to its former glory, with the magnificent design detail introduced by one of Scotland’s most famous architects, Robert Lorimer, coupled with the elegance of one of the countrys most comprehensive John Fowler schemes (of Colefax and Fowler)>
Lennoxlove remains the home of the prestigious Hamilton Collection, unsurpassed by any other private collection and includes the works by van Dyck, Raeburn and Kneller. There are also vast displays of antiques and curios, including Mary Queen of Scots death mask, a 15th century silver casket, a piano played by Chopin and even the map and compass carried by Rudolf Hess, Adolf Hitler’s deputy when he made a clandestine visit to Scotland in 1941.
The uniqueness of the eleven bedrooms harmonises the original features with state of the art facilities to provide a luxurious and relaxing stay. One of the most special suites, the Ladys Bower, allows guests to experience a 16th century bed that Mary Queen of Scots reputedly slept in and, with views stretching to the picturesque Lammermuir Hills, you can be sure that you will leave Lennoxlove feeling invigorated.
