Food Festival takes shape at Swinton Park...
The first Alfresco Food Festival is taking place in the Parkland at Swinton Park on the Bank Holiday Monday 25th May.
It is the first time the hotel has run this type of event, and it is also a completely new style of festival, with visitors following a culinary trail around the grounds, with alfresco kitchens serving tasting dishes of food en route. “We wanted to make the connection between the countryside, the produce growing in it, and the finished product completely real” commented owner Felicity Cunliffe-Lister. “This also seemed like a good opportunity to showcase produce which is growing on our doorstep in beautiful surroundings.” The gardens at Swinton Park are noted for their springtime display of rhododendrons and azaleas which promise to be spectacular this year.
Guided walks will be given along the culinary trail, with the local expert Chris Bax foraging for delicious wild food ingredients, and celebrated garden Susan Cunliffe-Lister who will be explaining her planting programme and design of the hotel’s four acre walled garden.
Refreshments available include real ales served in the recently restored Deerhouse, along with Yorkshire ice creams and a juice bar. There is also family entertainment with face painting, falconry displays, a children’s animal corner, pony rides and a bouncy castle. There is also a Gourmet Food Marquee with a selection of local fine food producers. The event has been kindly supported by The Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber.
