This was Rosemary Verey�s philosophy for her garden and an essential part of what made Barnsley House the place it became. Carved in stone above the garden door is the date 1697 with the initials �B.B.�. This stands for Brereton Bouchier, squire of Barnsley, who built the house of locally quarried Cotswold stone. Symmetrical, simple yet beautiful, it faces south-east, so has the full benefit of the rising sun.

In the 1950�s Rosemary Verey began re-designing the garden and gradually transformed it into its present layout. Barnsley House and grounds gained international acclaim as a place of remarkable beauty, visited by garden lovers from around the world, eager to discover for themselves this perfect example of the English country house and garden.

Within the grounds of Barnsley House the new contemporary Spa and garden has been designed to complement its historic surroundings and to provide a tranquil and calm sanctuary for relaxation.

Built using local natural stone, the Spa features Cotswold stone floors, dry stone interior walls, floor to ceiling glass and English hardwoods. The relaxation room is furnished with B&B Italian leather chaise longues and armchairs. There is also an open fireplace and views across rural Gloucestershire countryside.
